THE AUGUST BREAK
I'm excited to be participating in Susannah Conway's August Break this year! The August Break was designed by Susannah to give herself a break from writing blog posts, but it has become an event for anyone to join in, if they like. The idea is to post photos only on your blog for the month of August, and give yourself a break from writing blog posts. Susannah explains it all on her blog here, if you want to read over the details.

ELLE-INSPIRED ROSE EMBELLISHMENTS
To my surprise and delight, I received a free copy of the August, 2013 edition of Elle Canada magazine in the mail last week. I'll never turn down a free magazine! The first thing that struck me about the cover was the use of colourful rose embellishments around the cover model. They rarely seem to use clip art or graphics on their covers, so it struck me as something really unique.

PUGLY PIXEL - CSS PRETTY
Pugly Pixel is a blog I stumbled upon about a year ago, and it quickly became one of my favourites. Katrina, the Blogger behind Pugly Pixel, is a web design enthusiast who shares her love of Photoshop, fashion, typography and design on her blog. Her blog posts are always filled with beautiful images that are eye-catching and show her amazing sense of style. I'm always in awe of her photos and layouts...She has such an amazing eye for colour and design. Her blog is always inspiring me to keep working on my own design skills. Lots of Pugly Pixel's blog posts contain step-by-step Photoshop tutorials and screencasts that show how Katrina creates some of the fantastic images on her site. I've used quite a few of Katrina's tutorials and they have helped me learn a variety of Photoshop skills so that I can create or edit my own images. Her tutorials are excellent - always well presented, clear and easy to follow. She also has lots of free resources for bloggers that can be downloaded from her site, and some other resources for sale for very reasonable prices in her shop.
